Day 4, Locality 6
6) Tourist Look Out Pavillion, 3 km before Layia village; roadcut with transform tectonised oceanic crust
The road cut at this locality shows excellent examples of transform tectonised pillow lavas, with numerous shear planes transecting the section, many serpentinised. Broken up mantle lithologies can also be found in this section. If time permits, we will walk up to the new tourist pavilion look out, and study the view of the fossil transform, and observe the relationship between volcanic ocean floor and later sediments.
