Pickleball is one of the world’s fastest growing sports – over 5 million play regularly in the USA including such celebrities as Andre Agussi, Leonardo di Caprio, Bill Gates, and George and Amal Clooney.
Pickleball is a mixture of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a badminton size court using a slightly oversize table tennis paddle and a plastic ball. It is a really enjoyable (and addictive!) game from the outset because there is only a small learning curve to start playing to an enjoyable standard. Because it is played on a smaller court than tennis it is very sociable, and it doesn’t demand as much agility as other court sports because there is less ground to cover.
Paddles and balls are provided though if you become a regular player we ask that you invest in your own paddle
We play indoors between midday and 4pm (split into three, ninety five minute sessions (12 players per session with 8 playing and 4 sitting out)). The cost is £2.40 (£2 standard U3A venue fee and 40p to cover debit/ credit card payments and booking software license fees)
We do have a waiting list at the moment. and we do ask that all joiners go through a session or two of familiarisation and learning the rules and scoring before going on to court with the rest of the group. We run those sessions from time to time
