Field Trip to the Jurassic Coast
A party of 27 group members visited the Jurassic coast, staying in Weymouth. This was the second visit to the area by the Group, the first being in October 2010. Click here for our non geology 'holiday' snaps!
The trip was organised by Peter Bridges, one of our members, and we received expert guidance from Chris Andrew of the Lyme Regis Museum and Alan Holiday, a local resident geologist. It was Alan who led our 2010 field trip.
The outline programme was as follows (click for daily write ups):
| Morning | Afternoon | |
| Day 1 | Travel to Lyme Regis | Visit Lyme Regis Museum |
| Day 2 | Visit Portland | Visit Portland |
| Day 3 | Lulworth Cove and Stair Hole | Etches collection, Kimmeridge |
| Day 4 | Burton Bradstock & Charmouth | Bowleaze Cove |

For further details: comprehensive notes produced by Peter (Click here), a guide to Dorset trace fossils provided by Alan and originally produced by English Nature, 2 leaflets on fossil collecting - Discovering Fossils (Lyme Regis), Discovering Fossils (Charmouth) - and an article on Portland Stone.
