A u3a Wind Group was started in Malvern in November 2022. The aim is to meet on alternate Mondays, from 2.30 until about 4.30, to play a variety of styles of music for pleasure. We meet at Lansdowne Crescent Methodist Church, playing in the comfortable Welcome Room, where we are able to make a cup of tea in our break.
We have about 18 members, some attending every meeting and others coming when they can. We now have players of Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon as well as Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophone. We have room for a few more players so that we have all parts covered when some people are away, and our less experienced players are supported. The ability and experience of our players varies, but we aim to play together for enjoyment rather than to be taught our instruments or prepare for a performance. Playing with other people increases our confidence and enjoyment.
We now have a waiting list for flutes, and because of the size of our venue, and to keep a good musical balance, we are unable to accommodate brass players (apart from French horn).
We now have a conductor, as we sometimes used to "get lost" in the middle of a piece. Our conductor also plays a variety of wind instruments, and other members sometimes take a turn conducting.
Contact me for more information, or come to a session to find out if the group would suit you. I am able to send links to sources of some of the music we play, so that you can see whether this group would suit you.
